The Fax in Healthcare

While technology has squeezed the fax machine out of most industries, healthcare still relies on it to a surprising degree. This segment offers tips for making the most of faxing from Accuro as we keep moving towards faster and more secure communication.

Faxing is an interesting topic. In most industries, faxing has been replaced with newer technologies, so much so that it’s almost eradicated. With healthcare, we see faxing as one of the most heavily used forms of communication between Providers, Pharmacies, and third parties. Newer solutions are less available to the market for a variety of reasons and due to the nature of the data being transmitted, simpler forms of communication, like email, can’t be used.

Though we ultimately want to reduce the need to rely on faxing by introducing services like ePrescribing and Provider to Provider Messaging, we know there is a long path ahead. In the meantime, we’re committed to making faxing as easy as possible.

You may not know that you can send multiple items within a single fax, select the order of the Chart Items, and even remove excess pages you don’t want (for example, old Fax Cover Sheets). Today we’ll show you how.

To Fax Multiple Items and Change Item Order:

  1. Go to EMR, then Virtual Chart.
  2. Hold the CTRL Key (or Command for Mac users) and click on each of the Chart Items you need to fax.
  3. Right Click and select Fax.
  4. On the left-hand side of the Recipients window that appears, select an item and use the blue Move Up and Move Down arrows to rearrange the order.
  5. Add your Recipient and click Send.

Another thing you can do here is remove unnecessary pages from your fax before you click Send. For example, you may want to remove Fax Cover Sheets from Chart Items so they don’t get faxed to your recipient.  You can do this by clicking on the blue icon that looks like a piece of paper with a check mark. Drag and Drop the pages you don’t want to the Removed Pages.

To Remove Unwanted Pages:

  1. Click on the blue icon that looks like a piece of paper with a check mark
  2. Drag and drop the pages you don’t want to the Removed Pages.

It’s that easy!
